The 3-tier system that gives your business its own buying power

From first net-30 account to six figures of business credit — the exact order, the score that matters, and the 180-day path.

Your business can borrow on its own name

Most owners fund everything — trucks, materials, fuel — on their personal credit without knowing there’s another way. Built correctly, a business credit profile can reach six figures of access with no personal guarantee on the accounts that matter most. The build happens in three tiers, in order. You can’t skip.

Tier 1: net-30 vendor accounts

Vendors (office and industrial suppliers like Grainger and Uline) that extend credit on your EIN and business identity. Buy what you need anyway, pay early (that’s how you earn a top PAYDEX score), and each account becomes a trade line reporting to the bureaus. Goal: 5–10 accounts reporting, PAYDEX 80+.

Tier 2: store credit & fleet cards

Home Depot Commercial, Lowe’s Business, auto-parts accounts, and fleet fuel cards — with real limits ($1,000–$5,000+), many reporting to all three bureaus. Now every tank of fuel and load of mulch builds your profile while you work.

Tier 3: the real money

Unsecured business cards and revolving lines — corporate cards that approve on business revenue, fleet cards with no personal guarantee, and the major bank cards. Typical entry: PAYDEX 80+, six-plus trade lines, a year of history.

The 180-day path

  • Days 1–30: entity, EIN, business bank account, DUNS number, consistent info everywhere
  • Days 31–90: launch and complete Tier 1; confirm reporting; PAYDEX to 80
  • Months 4–6: build Tier 2, begin Tier 3 — no-personal-guarantee options first
